Take a look
What to expect
With more than 40 active space craft busy exploring the space around us, scientists have been able to capture the goings on of our solar system in unique detail.
Right now, frozen water mountains float across icy plains, thunder clouds swell to more than 60 kilometres high, and rainstorms fuel the currents of a 250-mile-long methane river.
And with cutting-edge visual effects (VFX), this wondrous series is able to bring these discoveries to life on screen, showcasing the everyday events our solar system like never before…
Five episodes to enjoy
From volcanic planets to distant worlds lay hidden in the darkness, Solar System is an epic journey across space and its incredible variety, in five stunning episodes.
Beginning with the volcano-covered planets and moons of our solar system, Professor Brian Cox takes us first on an expedition to the worlds bursting with fire and ice.
From Mars – home to the largest volcano in our solar system – to Triton, the most distant but active volcanic world known to man, discover the vibrant worlds erupting around earth.
Later in the series, Cox takes us on to the distant realms of our solar system where we encounter its strangest of worlds.
From an egg-shaped planet called Haumea to Miranda – a moon in orbit around Uranus whose unique topography, characterised by extreme cliffs, deep chasms and a rough, uneven surface – suggests a tortured, unexplained past...
